One boy decided to be a good big brother to his little sister and get her a cheeseburger.
One problem, he took the family van.
According to Fox 8 Cleveland, an 8-year-old Ohio boy was home with his parents who had fallen asleep Sunday evening. Wanting a McDonald’s cheeseburger for himself and his 4-year-old sister, he put her in the family’s van, got into the driver’s seat, and took off.
A mile away, a family friend recognized the two kids eating their meal at the East Palestine McDonald’s and notified their grandparents.
Police arrived a short time later and learned that the boy had even driven up to the drive-thru window; ordered a cheeseburger, chicken nuggets, and fries; and was handed the food before exiting the drive-thru lane to eat it, according to Cleveland.com.
According to the Morning Journal in Lisbon, Ohio, East Palestine Patrolman Jacob Koehler said the McDonald’s workers simply thought a prank was being pulled on them and figured the kids’ parents were in the back of the van.
Stranger yet, as far as authorities can tell from witnesses who spotted the young driver and called the police, the boy did not break any traffic laws or exceed the speed limit as he negotiated multiple intersections and right- and left-hand turns to get to the restaurant.
“He didn’t hit a single thing on the way there,” Koehler said. “It was unreal.”
When asked how he had learned to drive, the boy replied: YouTube.
No charges have been filed.
