A 33-year-old kindergarten teacher crashed her car into a cattle gate in Merced County, California, and then vanished. A team of rescuers could not find her body, though they combed the area where her car had been discovered.

Apollo Tull said that his wife Jamie Tull had called him in tears, saying, “I’m not going to see you again.”

After an all-out search, three weeks later she was found. Able to speak coherently, she told her rescuers that she had subsisted on two grasshoppers and a fly, and had purposely hidden herself in a water tank to avoid being found.

Tull is bipolar. Ten years earlier, she was diagnosed with mental illness after a traumatic incident, according to Fox News. Her doctor considered her high functioning when taking her medication.

But according to Fox News, before Tull had disappeared, a pastor told her that her medicine was a “gateway drug to the devil.”

The Modesto Bee reported that she had gone off her medication several months ago, due to the recommendation from her counselors, including a pastor, according to KSBW 8

She had also been experiencing marital troubles. In June she had petitioned for divorce. However, Apollo Tull and Sandy Devenport, Jamie’s mother, agreed that Jamie had changed her mind and wanted to make her marriage work out.

Sheriff Vern Warnke said that her vital signs were good even though she had suffered from extreme exhaustion and sunburn. She was transported to the burn unit at Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno, according to the Modesto Bee.

Tull was a kindergarten teacher at Woodrow Elementary School in Modesto. She was planning to transfer to another school the following year.
