Bill O’Reilly Fired From Fox News, Replacement Announced

Fox News host Bill O’Reilly has been fired by parent company 21st Century Fox, according to a company statement.

“After a thorough and careful review of the allegations, the company and Bill O’Reilly have agreed that Bill O’Reilly will not be returning to the Fox News Channel,” they said.

O’Reilly has long hosted “The O’Reilly Factor,” the highest-rated cable news show on television, but has lost numerous advertisers after five court cases regarding harassment allegations against him were settled for $13 million.

The 67-year-old O’Reilly has been on vacation in Italy, but his lawyer called the effort to oust O’Reilly a “smear campaign.”

He added that his client “has been subjected to a brutal campaign of character assassination that is unprecedented in post-McCarthyist America.”

Now, according to NPR, Fox News host Tucker Carlson will take O’Reilly’s time slot at 8 p.m. Eastern. The Hill confirmed the replacement. Carlson has been in the 9 p.m. slot.
