Bill Cosby, American comedy actor best known for his star role in ‘The Cosby Show’ was on trial for 3 criminal counts of sexual assault related to incidents that occurred years ago. In the case versus Andrea Constand, the jury failed to reach a consensus, resulting in the judge declaring a mistrial.
Prosecutors plan to retry Constand’s case. If convicted on all 3 accounts, he faces up to 10 years in prison, which could potentially mean he will spend the remainder of his life in behind bars.
After the trial ended, a spokesman for Cosby announced that he was ready to ‘get back to work’ and was reportedly preparing to speak to teens about the possible dangers that come along with rising in fame. However, later reports revealed that most likely will not happen and Cosby does not want to jeopardize anything, given the circumstances.
According to People, Cosby may not only appear in court again for the criminal sexual case against Constand, but will also appear in court next year in regards to a separate sexual assault case. The second lawsuit was filed by Judy Huth, who claims Cosby molested her when she was 15 years old. Since too much time has passed since the incident, this case will fall under a civil trial, not criminal.
Cosby’s court date for the case against Huth is set to take place on July 30th of 2018. People mentions the date is scheduled so far out due to the possible retry of Constand’s case, which will most likely occur later this year.
