John Mahoney, who played the beloved dad on "Frasier," has died in Chicago, reported TMZ. According to Mahoney's publicist, he passed away Sunday in hospice care after battling a short illness.
The British-born actor played Martin Crane, the father of Kelsey Grammer and David Hyde Pierce's characters, for 11 seasons of "Frasier."
Most recently, Mahoney a recurring role in "Hot in Cleveland."
Mahoney, who was in entertainment for 30 years, also had roles in many movies, such 'American President,' "Say Anything," and "Eight Men Out."
In 2000, he won a SAG award for his role in "Frasier." He was also nominated for two Emmys and two Golden Globes.
In addition to his roles in film and TV, Mahoney was also active in theater. He won a Tony in 1986.
