Kevin Spacey, star of the hit Netflix series “House of Cards,” shocked America on Sunday, October 29th when he announced that he was actually gay. His bombshell announcement came after actor Anthony Rapp accused Spacey of inappropriate sexual advances, which reportedly happened more than 2 dozen years ago.
Rapp publicly recalled an incident that occurred when he was 14 years old and Spacey was 26. While attending a party at Spacey’s home, where he was the only teenager, Rapp became extremely uncomfortable after the drunken Spacey scooped him up, then laid on top of him.
Rapp stated, “He was trying to seduce me. I don’t know if I would have used that language. But I was aware that he was trying to get with me sexually.” Spacey responded with an apology, but said he did not remember this incident.
Following this sexual harassment claim against Spacey, bad news has erupted for “House of Cards” fans. According to Fox News, the hit show will end after the sixth season, which was in production until Tuesday, October 31st. Originally, Netflix stated that the cancellation of the show was a decision made by the company months ago.
However, unfortunately for fans, filming has now been halted in response to the sexual harassment claim against the star actor. A statement was issued to the public Tuesday afternoon, “MRC and Netflix have decided to suspend production on ‘House of Cards’ season six, until further notice, to give us time to review the current situation and to address any concerns of our cast and crew."
A Netflix representative previously told Fox, "[Netflix is] deeply troubled by last night’s news concerning Kevin Spacey. In response to last night’s revelations, executives from both of our companies arrived in Baltimore this afternoon to meet with our cast and crew to ensure that they continue to feel safe and supported. As previously scheduled, Kevin Spacey is not working on set at this time.”
Fans are devastated. Many even suggested that the plotline should kill off Spacey’s character and continue the show without him.
