A few weeks ago, the beloved 13-year-old singer on America’s Got Talent, Evie Clair, shared some heartbreaking news. Clair announced that her father passed away.
Throughout the season, Evie has dedicated all of her songs to her father who was battling stage 4 colon cancer. Fans all over fell in love with both the singer’s powerful voice and apparent strength through life’s trials.
While she was gearing up for the first night of finals on the show, everyone was unsure of whether or not Clair would return to the stage to sing again. On Tuesday, the young teen answered that question with a stunning performance.
Clair sang a rendition of Louis Armstrong’s “What a Wonderful World.” Like she had done in the past, Clair dedicated the performance to her father.
She said, “My dad taught me, after I started something, to always finish it. That’s why I’m fighting to the end, just like he did.”
Her heartfelt performance resulted in a standing ovation from both the crowd and the judges and brought tears across the room. The judges praised Evie for her courage and strength.
Howie Mandel said, “Our hearts and souls go out to you, Evie. I know that your father passed this week, and I cannot believe the strength that I’m seeing in such a beautiful young girl.”
Simon Cowell called the song a “perfect tribute” for her dad. He said, “Your voice was beautiful, your song was beautiful and I’m very proud of you for what you’ve just done.”
Mel B said, “I know your dad’s up there, looking down on you, and he must be so, so proud. Because what you just did was beautiful. It was so pure and so raw.”
