A family from Laurinburg, North Carolina was distraught last week after 4-year-old Raul Johnson went missing. A statewide AMBER Alert was issued that escalated into a massive search, and additionally, the FBI later became involved.
Johnson reportedly went missing on Wednesday, January 24th, while his mother was at work. The young boy was home with his grandfather and sister when he went outside and suddenly disappeared.
As reported earlier, witnesses claimed to see someone by a pond near the home, but divers failed to turn up a body. However, according to CBS News, a body was found in the pond on Saturday, January 27th.
The News & Observer reported the FBI’s official statement, “At this time it appears to be accidental,” the local sheriff said. “We will continue the investigation until we have the answers to what happened to this little boy.”
Shortly after the tragic discovery, the AMBER Alert was canceled.
According to Spectrum News, officials confirmed the body was the 4-year-old boy and believe his death was an accident. A funeral was recently held for little Raul.
