Guests on the popular HGVT show “Fixer Upper” are alleging that Chip and Joanna Gaines deceived them when they purchased their home in Waco, Texas, where the show is featured.
Kelly Downs and her husband Ken claim that they were coerced by the Gaines’s to move to Waco and buy a house there. A year and a half later, they are frustrated by the amount of crime in the area, capped by an incident early Saturday morning when a drunk driver smashed into their home while they were sleeping.
The Hyundai broke through an exterior wall and tore into a front room office. It was stopped only by a fire place that had been remodeled during the TV show.
Fortunately, the couple was sleeping in an interior bedroom behind the fire place, and were not hurt. Police apprehended the driver as he tried to leave the scene. He was arrested for driving while intoxicated.
The couple claims that this incident caps more than a year of frustration for them while they’ve lived and endured in an area riddled with crime. “We have been intimidated and harassed,” Kelly Downs told the Waco Tribune. “There’s a big problem here. It’s not safe.”
She added, “It’s like the Wild West here. There’s been a lot of commotion coming from the bars and the store across the street. It’s been a problem from the beginning. We’ve lived here a year and a half and we feel deceived by the city of Waco and Magnolia Realty. … This is a Fixer Upper gone bad,” she said.
A representative for the Gaineses has not returned a request from Fox News for a comment.
