Liberals were expecting former FBI Director James Comey’s testimony on Thursday to be devastating for President Trump. Instead, the most shocking detail revealed during the hearing was that James Comey himself was leaking information.
Comey revealed to the Senate Intelligence Committee that he purposefully leaked a memo from a meeting that he had with President Trump hoping that it would lead to an investigation of Trump.
“I asked a friend of mine to share the content of the memo with a reporter,” Comey said. “I thought that might prompt the appointment of a special counsel.”
The shocking statement came while Comey was being questioned by Senator Susan Collins, R-Maine. Senator Collins asked Comey if he had shared his memos with anyone outside of the Department of Justice.
Comey’s decision to leak information came after he had been fired from the FBI and after President Trump tweeted out that he potentially had tape recordings of his meetings with Comey.
Instead of leaking the memo directly to the media, Comey had one of his friends do it because he feared the scrutiny that would fall upon him.
“I was worried that the media was camping at the end of my driveway, my wife and I were going away,” Comey said. “I was worried it would be like feeding seagulls at the beach if it was I who gave it to the media, so I asked a friend to.”
