3 People Dead, Hundreds Of Buildings Destroyed By Out-Of-Control Fire

A raging wildfire in the Tennessee resort town of Gatlinburg near Great Smoky Mountains National Park has taken lives as it rips through hundreds of structures, forcing thousands to flee for their lives.

According to WXII 12 News, hundreds of buildings have suffered damage or have been destroyed beyond repair so far.

Three people have died, at least 14 people have been injured, and up to 14,000 people have been evacuated from the area as the fires continue to burn in the town.

According to USA Today, Gatlinburg Fire Chief Greg Miller said, "This is a fire for the history books. The likes of this has never been seen here. But the worst is definitely over with."

Entertainer Dolly Parton, who was born in nearby Sevierville and invested a lot in the area, expressed her sorrow over the devastation.

According to the International Business Times, she commented, “I have been watching the terrible fires in the Great Smoky Mountains and I am heartbroken. I am praying for all the families affected by the fire and the firefighters who are working so hard to keep everyone safe. It is a blessing that my Dollywood theme park, the DreamMore Resort and so many businesses in Pigeon Forge have been spared.”

President-Elect Donald Trump responded to the the fire reports as well, writing on Twitter, "My thoughts and prayers are with the great people of Tennessee during these terrible wildfires. Stay safe!"
