191,000 People Have Already PLEDGED To Do THIS About Target
If nationwide retailer Target wanted to get a ton of free advertising this week, they got it. But much of it is not the type of exposure that will encourage customers to come to their stores.
On Tuesday, Target publicly proclaimed an existing policy that their customers are free to choose the store restrooms and fitting rooms that best fit their "gender identity" rather than their biological sex. Possibly hoping to gain accolades by riding the popular culture wave of transgender lifestyle acceptance, Target was instead hit by a massive backlash of customers vowing to "just hold it" next time they visit one of their stores, canceling their Target credit cards, and, in many cases, expressing disinterest in every shopping there again.
In response to the uproar, conservative action group American Family Association started an online pledge to boycott Target.
According to a letter from the association, they strongly believe men should not be allowed into women's restrooms and dressing rooms, especially with the ease in which it allows sexual predators to get to adult women and young girls.
"Clearly," the letter states, "Target's new policy poses a danger to wives and daughters. We think many customers will agree. And we think the average Target customer is willing to pledge to boycott Target stores until it makes protecting women and children a priority."
The American Family Association also states that it believes the most practical solution for Target is to create single occupancy, unisex bathrooms for transgender individuals — or anyone — to feel free to use.
As for 1:25 p.m. Central Time, the pledge had over 191,000 signers.
